Nights Of Comedy To Debut At Dalton Distillery Dec. 26 With Jerry Harvey And Friends

  • Saturday, December 12, 2015

In an effort to bring more smiles and laughter to the area, Bohemian Entertainment and The Dalton Distillery have teamed up to offer 4th Saturday Nights of Comedy, beginning Dec. 26. The debut line-up includes award-winning funny man and Comedy Catch regular Jerry Harvey of Chattanooga; comedienne-extraordinaire Jessica Carter of Nashville; and Dalton’s own celebrated writer, filmmaker, thespian and all around funny guy, Brent Haley, said officials.

"We’re hugely excited to bring a new tier of entertainment to Dalton,” said Connie Hall-Scott, director of Bohemian Entertainment. “My interest began in 2001 after my father reopened the Wink Theatre and brought me onboard as director. I put together dozens of shows there – from live theatre productions to Elvis impersonator shows to musical showcases featuring Ronnie McDowell, the Drifters, Dan Seal, and many others. After my time at the theatre ended I went on to work independently with a host of entertainers in different capacities, including various members of Guns ‘n Roses, Skid Row, Buckcherry, Thomas Rhett, Colt Ford, and others. Locally, I’ve entertained an untold number of folks over the past 13 years with Dalton Ghost Tours. I can’t wait to lend a hand in injecting a healthy dose of entertainment into the vein of downtown Dalton’s nightlife.”

“On my end,” said Chuck Butler, owner of the Dalton Distillery, “I have a great venue for it. The primary function of the distillery is to produce moonshine – a family recipe over a hundred years in the making – but then there’s a whole lot of additional space that wasn’t being used. I want to bring the community in, and lets all have some fun together. Offering up Comedy Night every fourth Saturday is how we’re getting the fun ball rolling.”

Ms. Hall-Scott met Mr. Harvey at the Comedy Catch earlier this year. “I literally laughed ‘til I cried during his stand-up routine,” she shared. “When Chuck said he’d like to do Nights of Comedy at the Distillery I knew exactly who should headline.”

Review for the performers:

He’d always known he was funny, but when Mr. Harvey began performing for local firefighter and EMS benefits in 2004 he realized he might just be hilarious. He took his act to the stage at the Comedy Catch – and has been steadily building momentum since. In 2010 he won The Southeastern Funniest People Search V. In 2012 he made it to the semi-finals at Las Vegas’s stand-up comedy festival, The World Series of Comedy. Recently he was voted among the top eight up-and-coming LGBT comics in the nation by Advocate Magazine. He has performed with the likes of Killer Beaz, John Wesley Austin, Aida Rodriguez, Dean Napolitano, Landry, Anthony Padilla, Jen Kober and more. Mr. Harvey is the co-host of “The Nth Degree” on WGOW 102.3, where he shares his slightly conservative and sometimes very controversial views of the world. He enjoys taking his show on the road, from city to city, coast to coast, leaving multitudes bent over in laughter all over the United States.

Ms. Carter is a stand-up comedienne from Nashville. She began her comedy career in 2009, and has since performed all over the country. With a background of over 15 years in acting, radio, and theatre management, Jessica is loving stand-up comedy and is constantly creating new material for her fans. She has been actively involved with Radio Free Nashville for the past seven years, and her show, Friday Night Drama, features local actors and comics from the Nashville area. She’s an extremely funny, extraordinarily busy gal. Don’t miss the opportunity to see this rising star of comedy in person.

Dalton’s own Brent Haley is no stranger to the stage. Since his beginnings at an open mic in Chattanooga more than seven years ago, Mr. Haley has performed across the nation in both stand-up and at improve theatre. Last year he began filming the documentary, “Set Up, Punchline, Topper,” about his life as a comedian on the road, and he’s currently working on an edgy, stage comedy called “PennyWhistle.” You might have seen him at Vaudeville’s Murder Mystery Dinner Theatre in Chattanooga, where he was a regular performer, or at one of his live shows at Dalton Little Theatre – “Shakespeare in the Sandbox” or “Mystic Town,” which he wrote, produced, and starred in. His film creations include writing and producing “The Other Me,” and the award-winning short film “Blue Butterfly.” He directed the web series “Black Liver Theatre,” starring DJ Lewis, Corey Ryan Forrester, and a slew of wacky comedians. When Mr. Haley’s not on stage or writing, he’s spending his weekends doing nerdy things like playing Dungeons and Dragons with friends, or watching NBA basketball with his wife and three children.

“This trio is going to kill it,” Mr. Butler promises.

Tickets are priced at $15, includes one drink. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., show starts at 7 p.m. Food and drinks will be available for purchase. This show is rated R, due to adult content. No one under the age of 17 will be admitted without a parent present. Advance tickets are sold at Dalton Distillery, Monday through Saturday. Tickets will also be sold at the door. Dalton Distillery is at 109 East Morris St. in downtown Dalton, across from the historic train depot.
