Barbara Jones Ragland was born on July 1, 1927 to the late Robert H. Jones and Edna Hereford Jones in Madison County, Alabama. 

She died peacefully on Tuesday, December 15, 2015.

She was employed with the Hamilton County School System, DuPont and the Hamilton County Election Committee as a poll chairperson in the Avondale District.

She confessed hope in Christ at an early age. Later she joined Stephen Temple Cumberland Presbyterian Church, where she was a faithful member of the Mother’s Board, Usher Board and Kitchen Committee. She got great pleasure from working and cooking in her church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Ragland, Sr.; brothers,  Shelby, Judge, John Dennis and Robert Jones; sisters, Gertrude McCallie, Alice Young, Helen Pruitt, and Agnus Underwood.

Mourning her loss, yet rejoicing in the time she spent with them, those left to cherish her many precious memories include her two sons, Thomas (Callie) Ragland, Jr., and Harold Ragland, both of Chattanooga; four daughters, Joyce (Jerry) Crutcher, Janice Ragland of Huntsville, AL,  Edna (Mack) Wiggins and Alice (Ernest) Porter of Chattanooga, TN; fourteen grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren; sister, Betty McField of Chicago, IL; three godchildren, Bertha Nalls of Madison, AL,  Patrice Miller and Kiomii Goodman, both of Chattanooga, TN; two sisters-in-law, Sandra Jones of Memphis, TN and Dorothy Shine of Huntsville, AL; a host of other relatives and many dear friends.

The funeral service will be held at 1 PM at Stephen Temple CPCA Church on Sunday, Dec. 20, with Elder Ernest Jefferson officiating.  Interment will be on Monday, Dec. 21, at 10 a.m. at Chattanooga National Cemetery.

The body will lie in state after noon on Saturday, Dec. 19, at John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Ave., 622-9995.
