Bud Alley
The Charles H. Coolidge Medal of Honor Heritage Center will host a book signing and sale event at its location inside Northgate Mall (Burlington Coat Entrance-South end of the Mall) on Saturday from 1-3 p.m. The book, The Ghosts of the Green Grass, is a new release in 2015 and tells the story of the Second Battalion Seventh Cavalry action in the Ia Drang Valley in 1965, during the bloodiest one day battle of the Vietnam War.
The Author, J.L. Bud Alley, will be present to sign each book purchased with the proceeds going to the Medal of Honor Heritage Center.
Lt. Alley was the communication officer for the Second Battalion of the Seventh Cavalry and subsequently served a complete one year tour of duty in South Vietnam with them. He was awarded the Combat Infantry Man’s Badge, the Silver Star for Gallantry, the Bronze Star for Heroism, the Purple Heart for wounds in action, the Air Medal for over 25 first wave Air Assaults ,the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry and the Presidential Unit Citation among others.
Upon his return from Vietnam he married his fiancée, Caroline Davis, and they celebrated their 49th anniversary this past August. After spending 41 years in the corrugated packaging industry Bud obtained a MA in Public History from MTSU in 2011.In addition to being an author he visits local hospices and VA facilities with his Therapy Dog, Codi. He is also a member of the Advisory Board of the Medal of Honor Heritage Center.
The Charles H. Coolidge Medal of Honor Heritage Center, formerly the National Medal of Honor Museum of Military History, is a 501 c 3 Nonprofit organization and the sales of this book will be used to support the operation of the Heritage Center.
