Southern Accents visit the Bluff View Art District

An up-close and in-depth tour of Chattanooga’s Bluff View Art District, a jewel in a city called “a cultural find” and one of five “next great escapes” by Travel and Leisure, will be on Southern Accents Thursday at 8 p.m.  Host Karen Elliott will guide her audience on a tour of one of Chattanooga’s downtown districts, exploring the Hunter Museum of American Art, the Houston Museum of Decorative Arts and the sights, sounds and flavors of the historic district.

The Bluff View Art District is the brainchild of Dr. Charles and Mary Portera, a Chattanooga couple whose inspiration created a downtown destination with turn-of-the-century homes, boutique hotel rooms, restaurants featuring global flavors and artisan breads and pastries, a sculpture garden, bocce ball court and art galleries that all complement the area’s museums.  From Rembrandt’s Coffee House to Tony’s, the Back Inn Café, the Bluff View Bakery and the Bluff View Inn this district is "one of the city’s most popular destinations."

Southern Accents, an Emmy-nominated program, currently airs on the Tennessee Channel and has aired statewide in Alabama, North Carolina, South Carolina, Kentucky, West Virginia and New Jersey, as well as in other cities throughout the country.  It is one of the longest-running programs on WTCI and is one of the most popular travel shows in the area.  Featuring interesting places to visit and fun things to do throughout the South, this program introduces people from around the world to the sights, sounds and flavors of the region.

Previous episodes can be seen online at www.wtciTV.org/southernaccents and this season host Ms. Elliott will take her audience to various Southern sites.  The premiere episode visited the Biltmore, America’s largest residence.  Coming up this season Ms. Elliott will take her fans to Atlanta to visit the Margaret Mitchell Museum and the National Center for Civil and Human Rights. Also, stay tuned for adventures in Gatlinburg and Louisville, Ky.

This is the first episode of Southern Accents edited by a new member of the production team, Bo Wheeler.  Mr. Wheeler, a native Chattanoogan, enjoyed “seeing a different side of his hometown with the fun, behind-the-scenes experience” at one of his favorite spots.  Viewers from all over America join Ms. Elliott on her adventures through the roads, rivers and restaurants of the South, exploring the culture and community that define Southern hospitality.

Encore presentations of Southern Accents can be seen on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. and Sundays at 1:30 p.m. on WTCI.
