  • Saturday, February 14, 2015
Richard Parker scored 20 points off the bench to lead a hot shooting Berea team as they defeated the Covenant men's basketball team 94-47 on Senior Day inside Barnes PE Center on Saturday afternoon.

The non-conference loss drops the Scots to 8-15 on the year. Berea, ranked No. 2 in the USCAA Top 20, moves to 18-4 overall. Berea is a provisional member of NCAA Division III.

Berea shot 69 percent (20-of-29) in the first half and knocked down 10 3-pointers to build a 51-18 lead at halftime. The Mountaineers cooled off in the second half, but kept the Scots at a distance in crusing to the victory.

Covenant recognized its eight seniors before the game. Seniors Bryant Engbers, Nate Frierson, Matt Brunjes, Ryan Burns and Jay Zeigler all started the contest while Colton McGriff and Teron Ferguson came off the bench. The senior class has produced 37 victories and helped the program to a winning season, the first in 14 years, back in 2012-13.

Chris Boyd led Covenant with 13 points and three rebounds. Engbers and Ferguson each had seven points while Will Portlock and McGriff tallied six each.

London Moore and Aaron Moore had 13 and 11 points, respectively, for the Mountaineers. Berea shot 54.1 percent (33-of-61) from the field with 12 3-pointers.

Covenant will get back into USA South play next Wednesday with a trip to Montgomery, Alabama, to face Huntingdon. Tip-off is set for 6:30 p.m. EST (5:30 p.m. CST).
