Bellhops Expands To 13 New Cities And Will Hire Over 600 More Students

  • Wednesday, February 18, 2015

Bellhops, a disruptive on-demand platform that provides a national, branded workforce of college students to help people move easily and more affordably, announced Wednesday that they are expanding to 13 new cities in 2015.

Those cities are: Tulsa, Oklahoma City, Indianapolis, Portland, Milwaukee, South Bend, Boston, DeKalb, Boise, Huntsville, Omaha, Wichita and Las Vegas.

Co-founder Cameron Doody estimates that the company will hire at least 600 students that attend colleges in those cities to meet demand for moving help.

“We’ll be recruiting at over 30 new colleges this year, including Notre Dame, Boston U and UNLV. That’s in addition to the 230 colleges at which we already recruit,” said Mr. Doody. “We’re interested in hiring hard-working, passionate college students who want real responsibility and the good pay that comes along with it.”

Bellhops are paid based on the size of each moving job. They can make up to $15 an hour plus tips. Once a customer books a move, Bellhops are able to access a job board online, or through an app, and claim it. This empowers Bellhops to work as often as they like, while having the flexibility to schedule work around class and activities.

The company places an emphasis on giving Bellhops career opportunities after they graduate as well.

“Over 25 percent of our employees at headquarters are former Bellhops,” says Mr. Doody. “We’re giving all of them an enormous amount of responsibility too. They’re involved in business development, strategy building and creative execution.”

This summer, the company will offer internships at their headquarters to 30 college students. Mr. Doody expects nearly 100 percent of those to be filled by Bellhops.
