Winter Weather Causes Many In Hamilton County To Lose Power; Winter Weather Advisory Back In Effect; More Schools Close

  • Monday, February 23, 2015

Many Hamilton County residents were without power for portions of Sunday night as the spell of wintry weather continued, causing trees and limbs to fall on power lines.

And the spate of school closings continued. They include Marion, Bledsoe, Sequatchie and Cumberland counties. Sweetwater was on a two-hour delay.

At 9:30 p.m., there were over 500 EPB customers without power at Soddy Daisy, at Bakewell-Sale Creek, at Hixson-Northgate and at Red Bank-Moccasin Bend.

By 10:30 p.m., power had been restored to many of those affected. Still, there were between 250-500 at Soddy Daisy without power.

John Pless of EPB said, "Chattanooga's smart grid and EPB system control operators restored power within about a half an hour Sunday night to more than 25,000 homes and businesses from Hixson to Sale Creek and Graysville.

"A preliminary investigation shows the loss of power was the result of a failure with TVA's equipment that supplies power to two EPB substations. EPB system control operators and Chattanooga's smart grid quickly re-established power supply to the affected area.

"We appreciate our customer's patience and understanding.:
