In addition to being a dedicated spouse, mother, professional photographer and cellist, Petty Officer First Class America Henry has committed to serving the nation as a member of the United States Navy Reserve assigned to Navy Operational Support Center Chattanooga.

Since graduating from Indianola High School in 2000, the Indianola, Iowa native has served her nation as a member of either the active or reserve component of the U.S. Navy. Her military career has afforded her a college education, valuable training, world travel and experiences of a lifetime.

The skills she gained while serving give her the tools to succeed in any venture she undertakes.

“The traveling and leadership training helped me network with new customers and build new working relationships,” said Ms.
Henry. “Plus, living the core values [Honor, Courage, Commitment] helps me to be the very best at any job I go to, bringing motivation, dedication, a hard working mentality and a drive to succeed.”

After completing her active duty commitment, Petty Officer Henry made the decision to leave the military to focus on her family and newborn child. However, after a few months away from the military, she missed her military family and made the decision to join the Navy Reserve.

“I was missing the action, the camaraderie and the feeling of belonging to something greater, so I came running back,” said Ms. Henry.

In 2012, Petty Officer Henry deployed to Djibouti as the Horn of Africa Budget Resource Advisor, managing a $15 million budget. Her hard work over the course of that year earned her a promotion, two warfare qualifications and numerous Sailor of the Month accolades.

Ms. Henry also is passionate about giving back to the local community, where as a professional photographer, she has donated numerous hours to local charities and events. Additionally, her family frequently volunteers to serve meals at a homeless shelter.

“My passion is helping others and making a positive difference in the world,” she said.

Vice Admiral Braun, Chief of the Navy Reserve, is proud to lead such a talented and dedicated group of Sailors. “The commitment of our talented Sailors to the Navy, their shipmates and their community is truly inspirational,” said Mr. Braun. “Their continued dedicated service in support of the Navy, Marine Corps and Joint Force lends credence to our motto: ‘Ready Now. Anytime, Anywhere.’”
