Ed Puryear
Ed Clay “Big Ed” Puryear, 79 of Chickamauga, died on Tuesday, February 24, 2015.
A lifelong resident of north Georgia, he had worked as a heavy equipment operator for Painter & Varnell retiring in the late 70s with more than 20 years of service. He then was the owner/operator of Big Ed’s Grocery & Package Store in Wallaceville for over 25 years. His passions in life were family, gardening, farming, working, and fellowshipping with his many friends at the store.
Mr. Puryear was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Puryear, sisters, Mary Hopkins, Katie Clark and elen Kilogore, brother, Joe Puryear, and grandson, Brian White.
Survivors include his children, Tony (Patricia) Puryear of Rossville, Michael (Terri) Puryear, Patsy Reed, Jeanette Mitchell, Rebecca Puryear, and Edwin Clay (Lisa) Puryear, Jr., all of Chickamauga; brother, Danny Puryear; sister, Bessie Filyaw, both of Ringgold; nine grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Feb. 28, at 11 a.m. in the South Crest Chapel with Sam Barrett officiating. Burial will follow in the Chickamauga City Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Friday, Feb. 27, from 4–8 p.m. at the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home & Crematory, at the end of historic Missionary Ridge, Rossville.
