Bradley County EMS Responds To Accidents During Winter Storm

  • Thursday, February 26, 2015

Bradley County EMS began emergency responses almost immediately once the snow began to fall on Wednesday. “Early on the snow fell hard and fast," said Stan Clark, EMS spokesperson.  "Roadways were covered quickly, and vehicles began to slide."

Just before 5:30 p.m. Wednesday EMS responded to the first major accident in the snow. Near the intersection of Eureka Road and Lower River Road a car slid off the roadway into a ditch. Initial reports from callers were that the patient was unresponsive. When EMS crews arrived, they removed the male driver from the vehicle. He was moved to the ambulance where he was treated and transported to Sky Ridge Medical Center. This patient was transferred later to Erlanger.

There was another accident just before 9:30 p.m. on Dalton Pike. This was another vehicle that left the roadway and went into a ditch. This accident was not as serious, said EMS officials. The condition of this patient is not known at this time.

"Responses at times were challenging," said Mr. Clark.  "Due to our preparation for this event we arose to the challenge and overcame it. All calls were responded to safely and our patients were taken care of.”

There were no serious accidents overnight. Responses were primarily medical calls.
