Excited About The New Walmart Store - And Response (2)

  • Friday, February 27, 2015

We are so excited to see that there is a possibility of new shopping opportunities coming to the Middle Valley Community. The convenience the Walmart Store will bring, not to mention the economic impact it will have, will be greatly welcomed by us.

I hope that this is passed by the zoning commission. Not only will it enrich the lives of residents in our area, but it will have a positive effect on the other area businesses.

My name is Lauren Day. I am a resident of the Middle Valley area and am in full support to the new proposed Walmart Grocery store.

I am a busy full time working mother and wife. There are days I forget something at the store that I really need and do go back due to long lines and the distance in which the grocery stores are.  Having a closer grocery store with Walmart quality will make my forgetfulness and late night runs a lot easier.

Also, I feel it’ll bring more business to the small local business that are slowly dying off.

I live in Middle Valley not the area and not Soddy Daisy. I don’t understand the excitement around another Walmart. Not that I don’t want new development or change in Middle Valley, but we have two Walmarts to go to within 7-8 minutes from Middle Valley. This project area does not have the in-place infrastructure to support a 24-7, 41,000 square foot, six gas pump facility.

Middle Valley Road as is, is not able to sustain the traffic this project would create. I have personally been in a traffic accident on Middle Valley Road.  I was traveling north on Middle Valley Road and the car in front of me was turning into Southland Pointe, that car had to wait for South bound traffic so he could turn in to Southland Pointe. The car coming behind me never noticed our brake lights, the car in front of me turned and the car behind me slammed into me. There are no shoulders on either side of the road, she had no place to go but into the back of my car. She was traveling by the officer’s report no less than 50 mph. My story is one of many.

With this project, there is no way that a turn lane or shoulder won’t be necessary. It was said in one of the outreach meetings that the “project” would handle the intersection, but the rest of Middle Valley Road is up to the county and city, which we all know that means Hamilton County taxes, A.K.A…the residents of Hamilton County.

Please do not think the opposition is opposed to change or progress in Middle Valley. That is not the case at all.  We as a whole do not think this project overall is what this community needs. I even mentioned this at one of the meetings. Maybe a store size of 20,000-25,000 square feet, store hours, maybe 6 a.m. to 12 p.m. and no gas pumps. It seems as though big business is saying, not only to our community, but to all Hamilton County residents, “It’s my way or the highway!”

We want a project that will “fit in” to our area of the county. A place that is concerned for the residents around this project. The Middle Valley community is not a largely commercially zoned area. We are not ready infrastructure wise like Fort Oglethorpe. There is new development out there, but this is not the project.
