Billy Oliver Harless, 85, of Hixson, formerly of Oceana, West Virginia, died on Friday, February 27, 2015 

Billy worked hard to receive his bachelor’s degree in pre-med from the University of Louisville, of which he was very proud, and his master’s degree in guidance from Marshall University. He enjoyed a long career in teaching at Wyoming County Schools for over 40 years and retired as a guidance counselor at the Vocational Technical School. Billy was a Hall of Fame member of Baileysville High School.  He was a 50-year member of the Pineville Masonic Lodge, past president of Oceana Rotary Club and received the Paul Harris Fellow Award presented by past West Virginia Governor Cecil Underwood.  Billy was a member of Oceana United Methodist Church. 

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth King Harless; and his parents, Verna Mae and Oliver E. Harless. 

Billy is survived by his sons, Bill and wife Carol Harless, Dana, KY, and Larry and wife Norma Harless, Hixson; three grandchildren, Rusty and wife Heather McCoy, Eric Harless and Lori and husband, Ben Stenger; three great-grandchildren, Jackson, Noah and Bella McCoy; brother, Wendell C. Harless, St. Pete, FL; his beloved cat, Elwood; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. on Sunday, March 1, at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson, TN 37343.

The family will also receive friends from 5-7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 4, at Evans Funeral Home, Route 10 Cooke Parkway, Oceana, WV 24870.

Funeral services will follow at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday at Evans Funeral Home with Reverend Stan Lowery and Betty Roach officiating.

Burial will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 5, at Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny, WV, in the Mausoleum Chapel with Reverend Stan Lowery and Betty Roach officiating. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Billy’s name to Hospice of Chattanooga, at www.hospiceofchattanooga.org or to the Alzheimer’s Association, at www.alz.org/donate

Arrangements are by the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson.
