Lee University School of Music will present Marimba Madness, a percussion studio concert featuring internationally recognized marimba artist Kevin Bobo, on Monday at 8 p.m. in Pangle Hall.

The concert will also feature students from the percussion studio of Dr. Andy Harnsberger, assistant professor of music and percussion coordinator at Lee.

According to Dr. Harnsberger, the student performers will present pieces which cover a wide spectrum of genres and styles, but also represent some of the most popular works for the marimba.

Mr. Bobo currently serves as professor of percussion at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. Prior to IU, Mr. Bobo served as an assistant professor of percussion at the University of Kansas. He studied percussion with J. C. Combs and Gordon Stout, and composition with Greg Woodward and Dana Wilson.

Mr. Bobo has performed as a solo marimba artist, performing in Taiwan, Singapore, Argentina, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Australia, Spain, Latvia, Lithuania, France, Italy, the Czech Republic, and nearly 40 of the United States. As a composer, his works are performed internationally.

He has authored two method books and composed numerous pieces for a variety of instruments and ensembles.  Mr. Bobo currently lives in Bloomington, Indiana, with his wife and two children.

Dr. Harnsberger, in addition to his teaching at Lee, is active throughout the year as a freelance percussionist and recitalist. He is a performing artist and clinician for Pearl Drums and Adams Musical Instruments, Innovative Percussion, Inc., Evans Drum Heads, Sabian Cymbals, Ltd., and Grover Pro Percussion.

Marimba Madness is a free, non-ticketed event and is open to the public. Pangle Hall is on the corner of Central and Church streets in downtown Cleveland.  For more information, please contact the School of Music at 614-8240 or email aharnsberger@leeuniversity.edu.
