State Labor Commissioner Mark Butler will present GeorgiaBEST Certificates to the first graduates of the Georgia Department of Labor’s GeorgiaBEST program at Georgia Northwestern Technical College on Thursday. GNTC is the first state technical college to implement GeorgiaBEST in its adult education program.
The awards presentation will be held at 1 p.m. at the Chattooga County Adult Education Center, 152 Senior Dr., Summerville.
In addition to Mr. Butler, other officials and dignitaries expected to participate include: GNTC President Pete McDonald; Beverly Smith, assistant commissioner, Technical College System of Georgia; Connie Smith, GNTC’s vice president for adult education; Jessica Nguyen, adult education transition coordinator at GNTC; representatives from the Chattooga County Literacy Council, as well as education and elected dignitaries and community leaders.
GeorgiaBEST (Business Ethics Student Training) is the GDOL’s initiative designed to teach students the soft skills necessary for success in higher education and the work place.
"The lack of soft skills in today work force is a major concern for employers," officials said.
