Dalton police are asking for the public’s help identifying a man investigators say took $600 in cash that a victim accidentally dropped at the RaceTrac gas station at 1907 Chattanooga Road.

The theft happened on Jan. 12, between 9:15 and 10:15 p.m. Store surveillance shows the victim entering the men’s room and then leaving the store a short time later. When he realized later in the night that he’d accidentally dropped the cash, he contacted the store and employees were unable to find the money.

Surveillance shows the suspect entering the bathroom shortly before 10p.m. and exiting minutes later. At one point, he is seen on video counting money before leaving.

The suspect is a white male who appeared to be in his late teens or early 20s with close-cropped hair.  He wore a black pullover and black sweatpants.

Anyone with information on this incident or the identity of this suspect is asked to contact Detective Matthew Lowery at 706 278-9085, dial 9, and enter extension 133.
