17 Dealers Featured At Houston Museum Antiques Show And Sale

  • Monday, February 9, 2015

Last year’s Houston Museum Antiques Show and Sale was one of the most successful in the event’s 40-year history, and museum representatives expect this year’s to equal or top it.

The show and sale, sponsored this year by First Tennessee Bank, The Trust Co. and the Bluff View Art District, will feature seminars by acclaimed glass expert Gay LeCleire Taylor (exclusive sponsor: The Trust Co.). LeCleire Taylor will give lectures “Glass Threads,” “American Paperweights,” and will also be on a glass ID panel for show attendees.

Ms. LeCleire Taylor has lectured extensively on topics such as South Jersey glass, American paperweights, pressed glass, art glass and glassmaking molds, has also taught glass conservation classes for the Mid-Atlantic Association of Museums, the University of Delaware's Conservation Care Training Program, the Winterthur Museum’s Fall Institute, and taught “The History of Glass” at Rowan University. She currently is on the Board of the Paperweight Collectors Association and is Secretary of the National American Glass Club.

The event’s 17 dealers, who are coming from throughout the South and Midwest, include Dogwood Antiques, Status Symbol Antiques, Len Harmon, JoAnn Hathcock, Collectanea, Jerrys’ [sic] Antiques, Tina Farley Antiques, Eric Lausch Silver, Nancy LeRoque, Ledford Mill Antiques, Angel Wing Antiques, Hoot and Nanny Antiques, Red Barn Antiques, Sterling Treasures, Lady Di's Antiques, William Cawood Antique Maps and Ruchelle Davis. Among the items featured will be furniture, jewelry, linens, silver, and, of course, glass.

Said Donna Flippen, 2015 Antiques Show and Sale chairman, “This is our major fundraiser, enabling us to protect and preserve our heritage, Miss Annie's collections.

“We've reduced the admission for this year's show, so that more visitors might attend and we will again complimentary glass identification. Don't miss the silent auction, and look for the 10-percent-off coupon inside the show program to receive a special discount next time you visit the fabulous Houston Museum gift shop.”

The Antiques Show and Sale benefiting Chattanooga’s Houston Museum will be held Feb. 27-28 from 1- a.m.-5 p.m. and March 1 from noon to 4 p.m.  The event will be held at Stratton Hall, 3146 Broad St.. Admission is $10.  For more information call 267-7176 or visit www.thehoustonmuseum.org.
