Lake Mary, FL – It was a tough first round as the Dalton State Lady Roadrunner golf team ended the day at Timacuan Golf and Country Club in seventh place out of the 11 teams in the Seminole State Spring Break Classic.
NCAA DI Appalachian State leads the two-day, 36 hole collegiate tournament with a 17 over par 305. The host school, Seminole State, is right behind at 310. Sydney Legacy of Seminole State leads in the individual standings with an even par 72.
Radford and USC-Upstate are tied for third at 321. Garner-Webb is fifth at 323. Wofford College is sixth at 332 with Dalton State two strokes back at 334. Detroit follows at 335 and IPFW is 338.
Niagara is 10th with a 340. Creighton is 11th with a 341. Florida Atlantic follows at 356; Ursuline College, 369 and John A Login CC, 402.
“The golf course played tough today, but we knew it would,” said Coach Jim McGrew. “Out of 78 golfers, only 12 broke 80, and this is basically a (NCAA) division one tournament. That gives you a good idea of how it was playing.”
Dalton State’s Erika Wardzinski finished round one tied at #6 with a 5-over-par 77. Caroline Griffin shot an 80 and is tied at #13. Julia McQuilken is tied for 38th with an 85. Rachel Rebne shot a 92 to finish Monday at 65th. Ashley McDonald is tied for 68th with a 95.
“I’m really proud of Erika and Caroline and how well they played,” added McGrew. “The others are disappointed in how they played and are determined to have a better day Tuesday. We will come out, compete and see where we end up.”
