Chattanooga Zoo Announces Fennec Fox Kits Naming Auction And Kit Encounters

  • Wednesday, March 11, 2015

The Chattanooga Zoo has so much enjoyed experiencing the birth and growth of its fennec fox kits.

Officials said, "We are blessed to have the opportunity and responsibility to care for them while they are here and prepare them medically and naturalistically for the future, through the best veterinarian and nutritional care, and enrichment.

They have quickly come into their own personalities and we are grateful to have them in our Chattanooga Zoo family!"

The zoo announced offerings that will allow the public to experience all that it has enjoyed with the fennec fox kits.

The Chattanooga Zoo will now be offering Fennec Fox Kit Encounters for a limited time only, and a unique naming opportunity to name the kits.

The Fennec Fox Encounter will allow guests to go behind the scenes and encounter the babies at the Chattanooga Zoo. Guests will have the chance of a lifetime to hold our kits, interact with them, get their photo made with them, and more. Participants will learn more about the Species Survival Plan (SSP), how the zoo cares for the kits, the importance of reproduction, and the benefit of our kits’ genetic blood line to our Zoo and others. This encounter will inspire participants to learn more about fennec foxes and other SSP species, and educate them on the importance of saving these animals in the wild.

The fennec fox kits are only young for a small period of time, making this a limited time only offering. This encounter is available now. The conclusion of this offering fully depends on the growth and behaviors of our kits and their mother, Sophie.

The Chattanooga Zoo’s kit naming opportunity will be in auction form. This kit naming auction will allow zoo supporters to have the chance of a lifetime in naming some of the most genetically important animals at the Chattanooga Zoo.

The auction will begin on March 11, at 5 p.m. and continue through March 31. The highest bidder at the end of the auction period will have the naming rights of the specific kit and the opportunity to meet the newly-named foxes. Naming the fennec fox kits will allow supporters to have a lasting stamp on their lives and the Chattanooga Zoo.

“Our fennec fox kits are so adorable and very important to us,” said zoo CEO and President Darde Long. “We are so excited to be able to offer these experiences to educate and inspire others to become animal conservationists and share their cuteness while they are young.”
