James M. Hobson has resigned his position as Chief Executive Officer of CHI Memorial effective July 12.
Officials said, "Under his leadership, there has been a $300 million investment in and physical transformation of CHI Memorial’s Chattanooga and Hixson campuses. He has also demonstrated vision and forward thinking with the development of the first phases of the Ooltewah campus among many other accomplishments and accolades. Behind the scenes, Hobson has worked hard to position CHI Memorial for long term success by fostering strong community relationships in Chattanooga and across the state, particularly with the Tennessee Hospital Association."
“Over the last six years, Jim has been instrumental in setting CHI Memorial up for long term success,” said Charles Arant, chairman of the board of directors of CHI Memorial. “As we look to the future, it will be critical to find a chief executive who can inspire the entire team, chart our future path, and work with our physician partners to advance our Catholic healing ministry.”
Effective immediately, Ricky D. Napper, senior vice president and chief operating officer, has agreed to take on leadership responsibility for the CHI Memorial health system. Kevin L. Lewis, M.D., CHI Memorial’s chief medical officer, has also agreed to take on expanded operational leadership responsibilities during this transition period.
CHI Memorial’s Board of Directors and Catholic Health Initiatives have engaged a highly regarded national executive search firm to start the process of identifying a new chief executive officer for CHI Memorial, it was stated.
"As a practicing surgeon and board member, I appreciate the tireless work Jim has done to further the legacy of the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth,” said Christopher St. Charles, M.D., Chief of Staff, CHI Memorial. “We wish God’s blessings on Jim as he pursues a new opportunity in health care leadership.”
