Anthony DeMatteo
Anthony J. “Tony” DeMatteo, 80, currently of Hixson, Tennessee, who lived in Estill Springs, Tennessee for the past 25 years, died on Wednesday, March 11, 2015 at Memorial Hospital in Chattanooga.
He served in the United States Marine Corp. Tony was a High School All American in football in the state of Pennsylvania and was inducted into his high school Football Hall of Fame. He then went to Elon University where he was inducted in its Athletic Hall of Fame. He owned United Sports Apparel, after his retirement he served as the mayor of Estill Springs, and as a Franklin County commissioner.
Tony was proud to have coached several years in the Hixson and Red Bank and Estill Springs Youth Associations as well for St. Jude Catholic School.
He was preceded in death by his son, Adrian “A” Michael DeMatteo and his parents, Tony and Mary DeMatteo.
Tony is survived by his wife, Lucretia DeMatteo; three sons and their wives, Mario and Lynne Dematteo, Damian and Shirley DeMatteo and Cos and Ashley Dematteo; six grandchildren, A.J., Kirbee, Damian, Devan, Cosmas and Ellison; his sister, Frances Weiss and several nieces and nephews.
The memorial service will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 14, at St. Jude Catholic Church, 930 Ashland Terrace, Chattanooga, TN 37415, with Father Charlie Burton officiating. There will be a reception at the church following the service.
Visitation is from 5-8 p.m. on Friday and 10 a.m.-12 p.m. on Saturday at the Williamson & Sons Funeral Home.
