Infinity Flux, Chattanooga’s newest cards, comics, and games store, is partnering with the Humane Society to host a charitable fundraising tournament this April titled “Catan for Critters.” Players will have the chance to compete for prizes and the title of the Greatest Catan Player in Chattanooga. Settlers of Catan is a popular board game, enjoyed by expert gamers and amateurs alike.
The event is officially sponsored and sanctioned by Mayfair Games (makers of Catan) and is an official Catan World Championship pre-qualifier.
Entry to the event is only $10, and all proceeds go to the Humane Society. First place wins a free trip to Gen Con 2015 in Indianapolis to play in the Catan National Championship. Second place gets a second chance with a free seat at Catan Con in Nashville where the winner gets to go to Gen Con. Prizes are also available for everyone who attends.
The tournament will be held on Saturday, April 11 and Sunday, April 12. Sign-up time slots are noon, 2 p.m., 4 p.m., 6 p.m., and 8 p.m. The tournament will take place at Infinity Flux, 3643 Hixson Pike, Suite B.
"The game has been called “the board game of our time” by The Washington Post and even the subject of a documentary film, Settlers of Catan is a beloved multiplayer board game and a modern-day classic. The game is noted for its accessibility to new players while remaining challenging to those more experienced. Since it was released in 1995, it has sold hundreds of millions of copies," organizers said.
