A Tradition Returns To McConnell Elementary

McConnell elementary school is abuzz with excitement as a favorite tradition returns to the school this year.  As long as anyone can remember, the school has held an annual carnival for the school and community.  Last year, however, the carnival took a one year hiatus. The school year just wasn’t the same without the big carnival, though, so McConnell’s Parent Teacher Association is bringing the carnival back this year, bigger and better!

Parents, like Rebecca Reed, remember attending the carnival themselves as children.
“The carnival was something that I looked forward to every year when I was a student at McConnell,” Ms. Reed remembers.  Now, as a parent with a child at McConnell, the return of the carnival is even more meaningful.  “I am thrilled the carnival is back so that I can not only share this experience with my own kids, but so that they can also have amazing memories of their school carnival”.  Not only is Ms. Reed a parent, but she is also now a teacher at McConnell and  remembers the impact that the event has on the community as a whole.  “The carnival was way more than just a place to go and play games. It was a place where the community would come together and support their community school. You didn’t have to have kids who went to McConnell to come and enjoy yourself. Everyone was welcomed and everyone had fun.”

Even the community at large has come forward to help see this event return.  Several local companies are sponsoring the event including Janie Shetter with Nationwide insurance, Elaine Boyd Osby with Berkshire Hathaway Home Services, Barto Pediatric Dentistry, Bill Owens Heating and Air, Standifer Orthodontics, and more to help ensure this event will be as fun and successful as it has been in years past.

While the carnival is certainly a fun event, it also has a mission.  The school is in great need of new computers, and the PTA hopes that proceeds from the carnival will enable them to purchase one full classroom set of Chromebook computers for the students to use.  The McConnell PTA wants to invite the entire community out to the carnival and hopes that everyone can make some fantastic memories at this favorite community festival.

Carnival Information

The McConnell Carnival will be held March 21 from 11 a.m.-3 p.m.  There will be games, inflatable bounce houses, an inflatable obstacle course, petting zoo, face painting, emergency vehicles, food, and much more.  All proceeds will go to benefit technology improvements at McConnell Elementary.
