The internationally acclaimed Leipzig String Quartet will come to St. Paul's after a special performance at the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C. The concert will be Tuesday, March 24 at 7:30 p.m.
Representatives say "With other recent performances in Europe, Israel, Africa, South America, Australia, and Asia, the Leipzig String Quartet performs time and again with passion and true artistry. Stemming from the renowned Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, the quartet is known for its versatility and mastery – finding deep emotions in modern music as well as the standard classical quartet repertoire. Founded in 1988, the Leipzig String Quartet is one of the most exciting string quartets in the international chamber music scene today. The foursome has won global recognition, and has been described as 'superbly integrated' by The Washington Post, and 'an eloquent, refined ensemble' by The New York Times."
With a broad repertory that includes the complete outputs of Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Mendelssohn, and Brahms, as well as individual works by Dvorák, Bruckner, Ives, Schoenberg, Cage, and many others (300 works by nearly 100 composers), the quartet has attracted a large audience of both traditional and adventurous listeners, placing many of their more than 50 recordings among the topselling releases in the genre.
Tickets will be available at the door: $10 General, $5 Students. Contact St. Paul's Episcopal Church at 423-266-8195 for more information.
