Edward Tarras
A fugitive on the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation’s Top 10 Most Wanted list, Edward Tarras, was captured Wednesday night in Florida, along with another man wanted by New Jersey officials.
Edward William Tarras, Jr., was placed on the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation’s Top 10 Most Wanted list on Aug. 19, 2014. He was wanted by the Smyrna Police Department and the TBI after failing to appear in court, where he faced almost two dozen sex-related charges. Tarras was charged by the Smyrna Police Department with one count of rape, two counts of sexual battery, 19 counts of especially aggravated sexual exploitation of a minor, and one count of sexual exploitation of a minor over 100 times. On Aug.15, 2014, Tarras cut off his tracking bracelet and fled the state.
Through a joint investigation conducted between the TBI, the New Jersey State Police-missing person’s unit and fugitive unit, Hopatcong Police Department, Sussex County Prosecutor’s Office, US Marshals Service-New York/New Jersey, USMS-District of Nebraska, USMS-Nevada Region, USMS-Florida regional fugitive task force and the USMS-Middle Tennessee joint fugitive task force, information was developed indicating that Tarras was with his friend, Kristopher Dohm, in the New Port Richey area of Florida. Dohm had been charged by New Jersey officials with one count of interference with custody. On Feb. 20, the United States Marshals Service-Newark/New Jersey Division secured a warrant for Dohm, charging him with one count of unlawful flight to avoid prosecution after authorities believed he abducted his seven- and eight-year-old sons.
At approximately 10:20 p.m. CST Wednesday, the Florida Regional Fugitive Task Force, Pasco County Sheriff’s Office and New Port Richey Police Department arrested Tarras and Dohm at the Royal Palm Inn, located at 6523 US-19 in New Port Richey, FL. Tarras and Dohm were both transported to the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office. Dohm’s two sons, entered as missing children by the Hopatcong Police Department in New Jersey, were also located and placed with child protection investigators.
Tarras, 39, and Dohm, 36, were both booked into the Pasco County Central Detention Center early Thursday morning, and both are being held without bond. The Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office has a hold on Tarras, and Dohm has a hold placed on him by the Hopatcong Police Department in New Jersey.
