Police Blotter: Safe With $100,000 Placed In It Turns Up $99,400 Short

  • Thursday, March 19, 2015

A man told police he and his mother put $100,000 in a safe, and when he later opened it, only $600 was inside.

Billy Taylor said the money was placed in the safe about five years ago. He said the safe was first kept at his mother's home, then was moved to a storage firm.

The mother died last December.

Mr. Taylor said he recently went into the safe to get the large amount of cash, then found that most of it was gone.

He said relatives were living with his mother at one time while the safe was at her house.

He said he and his mother were the only ones who knew the safe's combination.

Police said there was no way to prove who got the money.

Police checked out a vehicle that "was legally parked at a meter" at 418 High St.

It had a great deal of debris under it that had been caused by the street sweeper going around it.

Neighbors said the vehicle had been at the site for a year and a half.

The vehicle was registered to Charles Sutton, who died in 2012.

Police found a record of Corbin Creighton receiving a citation relating to the vehicle in Red Bank in 2013. He once lived on High Street, it was stated.

Police tagged the vehicle to be towed.

An officer noted that he had arrested a man with scabs on his face on drug charges. He showed employees a photo of Jeffrey R. Gray.
