The Lookout Mountain, Ga. City Council on Thursday passed on second reading ordinance 282 that provides that utility companies cutting in to streets and sidewalks must use flowable fill material to repair the area that is cut.

Ordinance 283 pertaining to soil and erosion conforming to new state guidelines passed as well.

Ordinance 284 passed adopting a strict fee schedule for all residential and commercial development.

The council approved on first reading ordinance 285 that provides for beer and wine sales at special events.  The second reading will come at the April meeting.  City Attorney Bill Pickering said that the new ordinance allows those wanting to sell beer and wine the ability to get an expedited license if they meet certain criteria detailed in the ordinance.  Some of the criteria are proof of liability insurance in the amount of $1,000,000 or more and the selling period cannot last longer than three consecutive days.

The council approved the purchase of a new police vehicle out of allotted SPLOST funds.  The new vehicle will be a 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe with four-wheel drive, similar to the city’s current Tahoe.  The new vehicle will come equipped with all of the necessary police safety equipment, lights, sirens, and decals.  Along with the police vehicle approval, the council approved to use First Tennessee Bank for direct deposit payroll services, something that they have been looking into for many years.

City manager Brad Haven reported that city employees did an excellent job in keeping the roads clear during recent winter weather situations with limited salt supply.  He then stated that the city’s new leaf machine had arrived and crews are preparing to put it to use.   He is also studying the performance of using a hydrogen peroxide odor control system for the city’s sewer.  This would replace the city’s current bioxide use and potentially cut cost in materials.

The next regular monthly meeting is scheduled for Thursday, April 16, at 5:30 p.m.
