Cleveland City Councilman Richard Banks said he believed that the Cleveland Police Department needed someone like Larry Wallace to "help us through this time."
He said Mr. Wallace, the former TBI chief, stated that one of his main concerns was politics in the department.
Councilman Banks said that even though some people were causing problems, the majority of the officers just wanted to "do their job...and not be embarrassed."
During the meeting, a resolution was also passed to authorize a contract with TDOT to place new signs and rumble strips in various areas throughout Cleveland, including Rollercoaster Hill.
Several councilmen had previously expressed concern that many drivers ignored stop signs in the area, creating a danger for residents.
City Manager Janice Casteel also announced that Charles Morgan of GSP Business Alliance was "very close to being able to get things started" at the Waterville Golf Course.
Several weeks prior, the council voted to lease the golf course to the company instead of closing it.
