UTC Women's Tennis Team Sweeps Morehead State

  • Monday, March 23, 2015
The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women’s tennis team swept Morehead State this afternoon, posting a 7-0 victory for the sixth time this season. The Mocs and the Eagles had excellent weather as they faced off today on the UTC Tennis Courts.

“It was a beautiful day to be out on the tennis court,” stated head coach Jeff Clark. “It was nice to have to play with a little bit of heat and a bright sunny sky, because as the weather continues to improve there is going to be a lot of matches played under these conditions.
I like the fact that we’re able to get out on a warm day like today.”

UTC took an early lead by claiming the doubles point to put the Mocs up 1-0. Junior Katie Polk and sophomore Rachele Gazzola defeated Aleksandra Savic and Alex Tachovsky quickly for the (8-1) win at No. 3.

The Mocs secured the doubles victory after junior Kelsey Coots and senior Kaylene Chadwell posted a (8-3) win over Ayaka Terashi and Dominique McLean at No. 2.

As singles play began, senior Claire Mulyadi quickly put Chattanooga up 2-0 in the match after her (6-0, 6-2) victory over Hayley Wild at No. 5. Freshman Samantha Caswell finished next with a (6-1, 6-2) win over Alex Tachovsky at No. 4.

Junior Kayla Jones sealed the overall win for the Mocs as she posted a (6-1, 6-2) win over Andrea LeBlanc at No. 1 to put Chattanooga up 4-0. Senior Kaylene Chadwell finished behind her with a (6-3, 6-1) victory over Dominique McLean at No. 3.

Juniors Alison Storie and Kelsey Coots both posted straight-set wins at No. 6 and No. 2 respectfully to give the Mocs the 7-0 shutout victory over the Eagles.

“Our team has done a pretty good job this season of going out and taking care of the task at hand and we did that today,” explained Clark. “I’m happy with the win and we will rest up and get ready for some big matches coming up this weekend.”

Chattanooga improves to 12-2 overall this season while Morehead State falls to 5-6 overall. The Eagles are currently tied for the Ohio Valley Conference lead with a 3-0 mark in league play.

The Mocs are right back at it this weekend.  Friday they host Western Kentucky at 2:00 p.m. (E.S.T.) and Sunday they face off with SoCon rival Furman.  Be sure to check the link for live scoring on the women’s tennis schedule page on GoMocs.com.
