City Councilman Yusuf Hakeem said he would like the council to look into the possibility of widening the area where tax abatements can be considered.
He said, "I want to see how PILOTs could be beneficial outside the current boundaries."
Councilman Hakeem said he had originally planned to have an ordinance ready in two weeks on the topic, but he said he was advised "that may be too early."
Instead, he requested that the idea be explored in committee with input from the community and groups like the Home Builders Association.
The City Council will hold the hearing on the afternoon of April 7.
