Ten service-minded Baylor students left this week to travel to Jamaica over spring break, where they will work in the squatter community of Ferry, an orphanage in Kingston, the Home for the Aged, and primary schools in Kingston.
This year’s group includes James Atkins, Natalie Becker, Erin Blalock, Kathryn Cash, Caroline Combs, Natalie Javadi, Ansley McWilliams, Kate Probasco, Kaki Voges and Caroline Wolf.
This is the 18th year that Baylor students have made the trip to Jamaica led by Baylor’s Community Service Director Joli Anderson. Her husband, Yogi, also makes the trip as well as Community Service Assistant Laurie Millener.
In addition to their service work, each of the 10 students brings 10 school backpacks stuffed with school supplies. The students also raised thousands of dollars, primarily by letter solicitation, for the Jamaica Education Fund, established in 2002 to help children in Jamaica attend school.
