UTC Volleyball Tops Tennessee And Ole Miss

  • Sunday, March 29, 2015

Hosting its own Spring Tournament, the Chattanooga volleyball team showed growth on the court as the Mocs defeated Tennessee and Ole Miss on Saturday in Maclellan Gym.

The Mocs, who welcomed Tennessee, Georgia Tech, Georgia, Dalton State, Ole Miss, Kennesaw State, Georgia State and Belmont, opened the tournament with a two-set win over the Lady Vols  (25-17, 26-24).  Chattanooga followed up with a close loss to Georgia, 25-17 and 25-20 before concluding the competition with its second pair of victories against the Ole Miss Rebels (25-21, 25-23).

Head Coach Travis Filar said, "I couldn’t have been more pleased with how the tournament went today. We hosted such great programs and our team competed confidently against three great SEC teams. We found ways to win points in many different ways, which is real growth. I thought our passing was excellent and the pressure we put on teams from the service line was consistently aggressive. I also thought Catherine Chason was exceptional in leading our back court play. Lauren Greenspoon ran our offense efficiently from the setter position, and all of our hitters found different looks to score. Overall, our efforts today should be great promise on where we will be by the fall season."
