Liam Johnston and
Andrew Weathers played a solid 36 holes tying for second at the Davidson College Invitational shooting -1, 143. The duo led the Chattanooga Mocs to a runner-up finish as a team, seven shots behind Charlotte.
The top five is the second straight for Weathers and second in three events for Johnston. They were joined in the top 10 by Wes Gosselin who tied for eighth at +2.
The Mocs entered the day as the leader. Thomas Rowland and the 49ers shot past early and held on at the finish. Rowland claimed medalist honors at -3 behind a 5-under par 67. His low round was the difference.
“We had three good results,” coach Mark Guhne stated. “But we didn’t have anybody go low. We got close, we just didn’t finish the round yesterday. We left too many shots out there, and it bit us today.”
Johnston and Weathers shot matching 143’s with 1-under 71’s today. Gosselin turned in a 74, while Ewan Scott rounded out the counting scores with a 79. Kory Webb had the drop score with an 82.
Charlotte’s 287 (-1) was the low round of the tourney. It finished at 576 (-1), with the Mocs seven shots behind at 583. Wofford came in third another 13 strokes back at 596.
Chattanooga heads back to the tee pretty quickly. It heads to Auburn for the Tiger Invitational. The three-day, 54-hole event opens Sunday, March 8, and ends Tuesday, March 10
