Police have charged Lovell Deon Lightner in an incident Wednesday in which two police vehicles were rammed.

Lightner, 42, of 2219 E. 19th St., is charged with three counts of aggravated assault on police, aggravated burglary and theft over $1,000.

Police said they were dispatched to a theft in progress at 1213 E. 34th St. Lightner was seen walking between the house and a storage building.

He started running when he saw police and ignored commands to stop.

Police said one police vehicle was behind the borrowed Hyundai Elantra being driven by Lightner and another got in front of it.

Lightner pulled forward and rammed one police car, then went backwards and struck another. Police said, "All three officers used great restraint in not firing their weapons at the vehicle."

Lightner fled the scene, and police were not able to catch him.

Lightner was positively identified by the theft victim and by police, it was stated. Warrants were issued for his arrest, and he was taken into custody later.

Last Sept. 25, police said they found stolen property from a burglary on Glendon Drive. Two men said they had bought several pieces of lawn equipment from Lightner for $300. The victim said the items were worth $2,000.

Lightner, who has an extensive criminal record, pleaded guilty in Criminal Court in December 2013 to aggravated burglary and was given a four-year prison sentence.
