CGLA 6th Grader Wins In EPB Black History Poetry Conest

  • Monday, March 30, 2015

One of our newest students at Chattanooga Girls Leadership Academy is joining the ranks of award-winning CGLA Mustangs. Sixth-grader Abigail Stone won the 11th Annual EPB Black History Month Poetry Contest in the 6th-8th grade category.

EPB received 372 entries overall in this year’s contest. Ms. Stone, an 11-year-old homeschool student who came to CGLA in January, was one of several CGLA students who entered original poems in the contest about inspirational African-Americans.

Ms. Stone’s poem, “The Legacy of Harriet Tubman,” earned her a $100 prize which will be
presented to her at an awards banquet sponsored by EPB on April 9. Her sponsoring
teacher, Reed Dillard, will also receive a $100 award.

“I really enjoy writing poetry,” said Ms. Stone. “I write songs, too, some of which have been recorded.”

Officials said, "The CGLA family is extremely proud of this great honor for Abigail as a young writer and the accomplishment it brings to our campus."
