The threat of inclement weather across our region has led Blood Assurance to make changes to its schedule for this Thursday. Blood Assurance donor centers and bloodmobiles are adjusting their hours of operation so team members and donors can arrive safely.
The donor centers in Hixson, Johnson City, Cleveland, Downtown Chattanooga, East Brainerd, Dalton, Fort Oglethorpe, Rome, and Abingdon, Va. will open at
9 a.m. Bristol, Va. and Kingsport, Tenn. will open at their normal time of
10 a.m. The Cartersville, Ga., Cookeville and Tullahoma, Tenn. locations will open at their regularly scheduled time of
11 a.m.
The following blood drives are scheduled to take place this Thursday:
· Johnson City Medical Center – Johnson City, 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
· Darlington School – Rome, 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
· Krystal Tallan Building – Chattanooga, 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
· Parkridge Hosptial – Chattanooga, 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
· Bradley Health and Rehab – Cleveland, 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
· Cumberland Health – Bridgeport, 12:00 p.m.to 5:00 p.m.
Blood Assurance is a non-profit regional blood center responsible for supplying blood and blood components to 75 healthcare facilities in 51 counties. Over 540 blood donors are needed every day in order to adequately supply the hospitals served by Blood Assurance.
To be eligible to donate blood, you must be at least 17 years old (16 years old with parental consent), weigh 110 pounds or more and be in good health. The process usually takes about 30 minutes and includes a complimentary snack and t-shirt. Donors are asked to drink plenty of fluids - avoiding caffeine - and eat a meal that is rich in iron prior to donating. Your one donation can save three lives.
