Chattanooga To Host National Amateur Soccer Championships

  • Wednesday, March 4, 2015

US Soccer and US Adult Soccer announced this week that Chattanooga's Finley Stadium will host the 2015 National Amateur Championships on May 29-30.

There will be one team each from the four top amateur leagues; the National Premier Soccer League, the United Soccer League's Premier Development League and the US Amateur Soccer Association's Open and Amateur Champions.

Chattanooga FC will compete in the tournament because the New Your Red Bull U23s, who won the NPSL championship last year over CFC has joined a pro league and are not eligible.

"These teams will be very good" said CFC head coach Bill Elliott in a press release. "The matches will be extremely competitive and the fans are definitely in for a treat.  If you love soccer - or you just love Chattanooga - you don't want to miss it."

The two semifinal games will be played on Friday, May 29.  The consolation and championship games will be played on Saturday, May 30.

The trophy is named after Hank Steinberecher who served as US Soccer's Secretary General for 10 years.

The four teams in the tournament are the Michigan Bucks (USL PDL), Maryland Bays (USASA Open Champion), NY Greek Americans (USASA Amatuer Champion) and NPSL's Chattanooga FC.
