Criminal Court Judge Don Poole on Monday morning sentenced Devontavius Bryant to 20 years in prison at 100 percent for the rape of a jogger by Finley Stadium on Oct. 12, 2012.

Bryant was given a concurrent five-year sentence for robbery.

Deacon Williams earlier pleaded guilty and got sentences of 10 and six years.

Bryant was 18 and Williams 16 at the time of the attack on Oct. 12, 2012.

Prosecutor Cameron Williams said Bryant was also involved in the aggravated robbery of a woman who had just finished jogging not far from Finley Stadium in August 2012.

The woman took the witness stand at Bryant's sentencing hearing and said she was 100 percent sure he was one of the two youths who robbed her at gunpoint outside her home on 17th Street. The woman has since moved out of town.

Prosecutor Williams said the woman also testified at a transfer hearing in Juvenile Court and the case has been moved to adult court.

The woman said she had just finished running and had just gotten in her car when the youths stopped the door from closing. She said one told her to give them her money.

She said they were so young that she thought they were kidding. She said she asked, "Are you serious?"

She said the one with the gun responded by bashing her in the head with the gun. She said she was hit 4-5 times.

The woman said the pair took her purse, containing cash, credit cards and glasses, as well as her cell phone. She said the gunman took the purse and the other the cell phone. The purse was thrown in a nearby trash can. She said Bryant was not the gunman and did not say anything during the incident.

She said she screamed and a couple nearby eating dinner at the time of the 6 p.m. incident raised their blinds, then came out to help. She said she was at the hospital getting treatment until 3 a.m. the next morning.

The woman said she was shown two lineups, but they apparently contained only adult photos. She said a friend, who knew that she jogged downtown, later sent her by email a story about the Finley Stadium rape. She said when she saw Bryant's picture she immediately recognized him.

She said, "His eyes were very distinct."

At the hearing, Bryant's uncle, Jerrel Bryant, said his father had died at a very early age from an illness and he had stepped in to try to be a father to Devontavius. He said there was a loving family and Bryant had a good upbringing at College Hill Courts.

He called him "funny, inspiring, caring."

He said, "If you saw a little old lady getting off the bus with groceries, he would be the one who would go help her."

He said he found it "unbelievable" when he heard he was charged, and he still does not believe he did it.

Judge Poole said there was "overwhelming proof" of Bryant's involvement in the "horrible, horrendous" crime.

It was testified that the pair robbed the jogger by Finley Stadium and took turns raping her.

The victim testified at the trial, but not at the sentencing hearing.
