Students from Brainerd High School and Howard School will compete to win recurring scholarships to UTC in a debate tournament. The tournament will be held April 18, beginning at 9 a.m. in The University Center at UTC, 642 E. 5th St.
The tournament will consist of two qualifying rounds leading up to the final debate. The day will conclude at 4 p.m. with the announcement of the scholarship winners.
Up to five recurring scholarships to UTC will be awarded to the top students. Among these awards are scholarships in honor of Robert Fisher, UTC graduating senior and Rhodes Scholar, and Judge Curtis Collier, Senior United States District judge.
The winning school will receive an award named after Judge Walter F. Williams, former Chattanooga city judge.
The tournament provides students with a platform to develop and showcase their skill sets.
The event is hosted by the Chattanooga chapter of the Links Incorporated, the Southeast Center for Education in the Arts at UTC, the UTC Chancellor’s Multicultural Advisory Council, and it is sponsored by the UTC Theatre Co. and the Office of Equity and Diversity.
