Chattanooga Football Club Gets New Look for 2015

  • Friday, April 10, 2015

Chattanooga Football Club is revealing its newly-designed jerseys for the 2015 season on Thursday, April 16 at a press conference 12:00 at Finley Stadium.

Fans are invited and lunch will be served. The new jersey designs will excite fans and players alike, and, according to Sean McDaniel, general manager of the club, will reflect the spirit of the club.

“We have a very promising squad this year, a brand new, state-of-the-art pitch at Finley Stadium, and now we have great-looking jerseys to top it all off.”

Chattanooga FC, founded in 2009, has always stayed true to its roots when it comes to its identity. The club’s logo is based on the old Chattanooga flag, which is itself based on the Tennessee state flag. And Paul Rustand, a CFC board member who designs the team’s jerseys, explains the inspiration behind the team’s colors.

“Navy blue came from the state flag, as did the gold, but it also had the benefit of relating to UTC colors,” Mr. Rustand said. “The addition of sky blue was a desire to add something to the Chattanooga sports culture.”

Unlike their counterparts in football, baseball, basketball and other sports, soccer teams usually redesign their jerseys on a regular basis. While CFC’s new design is unique, Rustand made a conscious effort to pay homage to the club’s previous jersey designs. The color scheme is different from last year, but will be familiar to CFC fans. Also, a long-time partnership with Volkswagen Chattanooga is renewed, but with a slightly different logo. “The biggest change is that we are doing throwbacks to the colors of the first season's uniforms, and we are returning to the ‘flat' Volkswagen Chattanooga logo,” said Mr. Rustand.

Mr. Rustand, the design director at the local design studio Widgets & Stone, says there are both challenging and rewards aspects that accompany designing a new jersey.

“Designing several nice jersey options is relatively easy and certainly fun, but figuring out what is best for the season  – and relating that to what has been done in the past — is the biggest challenge,” he said. “My favorite part is getting an opportunity to incorporate design elements that I have seen used in other great soccer jerseys around the world.”

The jersey press release will be held on Thursday, April 16 at noon at Finley Stadium. The event is free and the public is encouraged to attend. CFC’s home jersey, away jersey, and training jersey will be shown. The jerseys are currently available for sale online, and will ship in the coming weeks.

CFC opens its season in Conyers, GA on May 9 and will play their home opener on Wednesday, May 13 at Finley Stadium.
