Melissa Smeltzer will be serving patients at Battlefield Lung Specialists as the Fort Oglethorpe facility’s newest nurse practitioner, practicing alongside Battlefield’s pulmonologist, Dr. Timothy Ashburn.
Ms. Smeltzer comes to Battlefield Lung Specialists with a background as a critical care nurse and educator. She has nearly 20 years of experience as a registered nurse as well as 7 years as director of education at Hutcheson Medical Center. After earning her Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from Albany State University, Ms.
Smeltzer graduated from Southern Adventist University with a Master of Science degree in nursing with an emphasis as a Family Nurse Practitioner.
“Melissa brings an extensive depth of knowledge and experience to our practice,” said Dr. Ashburn. “She is a valuable asset and adds a vital dimension to our organization and our medical team.”
Ms. Smeltzer and her husband Mark live in Chattanooga with their four children. In her spare time, she enjoys participating in sporting activities, running and reading. She said she is thrilled to begin working hand-in-hand with northwest Georgia community members to address their individual medical needs and maximize their patient care experiences at the Battlefield Lung Specialists clinic.
