Baylor Boys In Tie For First In Rotary Tennis Tourney

New faces and long time champions jockeyed for position Friday during the opening day of the 59th Chattanooga Rotary Tennis Championship, while Saturday should provide plenty of fireworks in a battle for four championships in two divisions.

Shaping up to be one of the closest finishes in tournament history, Championship singles matches go on at 8:30 a.m. - Division A Boys and Girls at Baylor, Division B Boys at McCallie and Girls B at GPS - with doubles to follow.

Knox Webb leads Girls A and Boys B, while Baylor is tied for the lead in boys and third in girls.

Boys A - A battle to the wire should be in store as two-time defending champion St.

Xavier (Ky.), Baylor (30 Rotary titles) and Mtn. Brook (Ala) are all tied for first with 12 points.

With singles finals being played first, doubles will most likely determine the champion.

"Saturday should be exciting as three teams will be battling each other in singles and doubles," said Baylor coach Philip Johnson. "Looking forward to seeing some great tennis ."

Mtn. Brook has won two B Division titles (1983, '85) but looking for its first A Division crown.

.Girls A - Four points separate three teams as four-time defending champion Baylor in third) hopes for a strong finish and help from other schools to win its fifth straight. Knox Webb won the A Division in 2005.

Knox Webb leads with 11 points, followed by McCracken (Ky.) with 10 and Baylor with 8.
