Cleveland State Offers Spring Continuing Education Classes

The Department of Continuing Education at Cleveland State Community College has a new line up of classes for spring. The upcoming classes are as follows:

?          Parenting/Divorce Workshop
Classes are for divorcing parents of minor children are now offered on the Cleveland State Campus. These classes fulfill the requirements of the Tennessee Education Seminar Law for divorcing parents.

Classes will be on Saturday, April 18 from 8 a.m. – noon and Thursday, April 23 from 5-9 p.m. in room 123 of the Mary T. Barker Humanities Building. The cost of the course is $45 per person. Pre-registration is required. Call (423) 473-2270 to register or for more information. 

?          Intro to Power Point
This training will introduce the student to the numerous uses of Microsoft PowerPoint and examine ways to create a successful slide show presentation all while exploring the PowerPoint environment. Items covered may include, but aren't limited to: creating/modifying new presentations, add/edit text to slides, adding new slides, inserting clip Art/images/shapes, modifying tables/charts, and adding sound/video/animation to slides. Classes will be held on Wednesdays and will begin on Wednesday, April 15 and run through Wednesday, May 6 from 5-6 p.m. in room L-109 of the CSCC Library. The cost of the course is $45. 

?          Keys to Optimizing Your Social Security Benefits
If you are between the ages of 58 and 68 and you are looking to be educated on Social Security, this course will teach you fundamental principles to ensure you live a comfortable retirement. Learn various claiming strategies that could potentially increase your benefits: how Social Security benefits are calculated; how to coordinate benefits with your spouse and the current state of the Social Security system and what it means for you. This class will meet on Tuesday, April 21 from 6-8 p.m. in room L-120 of the CSCC Library. The cost of the course is $29.
 

?          Advanced Manufacturing Academy
This course consists of 2, two-week portions: Career Exploration and Readiness and STEM Camp. Career Exploration and Readiness portion includes the following activities: career cruising; college tours; mathematics applied to manufacturing; industry training and tours; behaviors; teamwork and safety; soft skills. STEM Camp includes: building advanced robots using LEGO TETRIX kit; advanced programming; engineering techniques for drafting top-quality robot designs; engineering process and concepts; use and purpose of various sensors; collecting and logging data for experiments; creating and troubleshooting robotics projects; collaborating and working together on project-based teams; applying physics and math concepts to real robots. This academy will be Wednesday, June 1-June 11 from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. and will be located in the Technology Building on the Main Campus.
