THP Names New Captain Over Chattanooga District

  • Wednesday, April 15, 2015
Tennessee Highway Patrol Colonel Tracy Trott announced Jeff Mosley as the new captain of the agency’s Chattanooga District, effective immediately. Captain Mosley replaces Captain Jessie Brooks, who last month was appointed to lead the THP Knoxville District after a retirement left a vacancy.

“We’ve had our eyes on Jeff for a while now. He has proven himself as an up-and-coming leader in our organization, and we’ve now given him the opportunity to produce positive results in the Chattanooga District,” Colonel Trott said.

Prior to his promotion, Captain Mosley had worked as a road lieutenant in Coffee County since 2009.
During that time, he assisted with the organization and allocation of manpower for the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival, which brings over 80,000 motorists to the area annually.  Captain Mosley also served one-year terms as THP special programs lieutenant (2008-09) and homeland security/wrecker lieutenant (2007-08) in the 12-county Chattanooga District. He was responsible for teaching safety education programs and conducting defensive driving school and handgun school inspections, as well as inspecting all wreckers throughout the area.

Captain Mosley became a state trooper in 1987. His first assignment was as a road trooper in Giles County until 1992. He also worked in White and Van Buren counties in THP’s Cookeville District until he earned his first promotion to sergeant in Warren County in 1998.

Captain Mosley is certified in advanced traffic crash investigation, criminal drug patrol, and as a DUI instructor. He also graduated from the Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command in 2005.

The new THP Chattanooga District Captain began his career with the state of Tennessee as a correctional officer with the Department of Corrections in 1983.
