Glass House Collective is hosting ‘The Next Big Thing’ Urbanism Conference in East Chattanooga on April 22-24. The conference will kick off with a public event featuring guest speaker Mike Lydon, principal of The Streets Plan Collaborative and end with a public Design Showcase presenting nine teams’ ideas for the future of the Glass Street community.
In 2012, Glass House Collective partnered with the American Institute of Architects (TN and Chattanooga Chapters) to host an Urbanism Workshop on Glass Street. Multi-disciplinary teams of talented individuals from in and around the community came together to dream up ideas for the future of Glass Street. These ideas became a blueprint for action for within the Glass Street community.
Now, Glass House Collective is hosting another Urbanism Workshop for Phase Two of their work inviting individuals from across the country to work with local architects, planners, artists, residents, and community leaders to envision new opportunities for Glass Street which will add to the vibrancy of the city as a whole. The Urbanism Workshop is intended to take Glass House Collective’s previous efforts to the next level by developing ideas that are creative, realistic, and scalable, said officials.
Teams will present their ideas to the public at the Design Showcase ending the conference on Glass Street. Armed with the design inspiration from this workshop, Glass House Collective will work with the Glass Street community to prioritize projects and empower neighbors to get involved by implementing projects benefiting their community.
The Urbanism Kickoff event will be held Wednesday, April 22, from 6-8 p.m. at greenspaces, 63 East Main St. The Kickoff Event and Design Showcase are open to the public. The Design Showcase featuring team presentations will be held on Friday, April 24, from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. at 2200 Glass St. Visit www.glasshousecollective.org/designshowcase for more information.
