Locally-owned and operated, Green’s Eco Build & Design will make it easy to buy locally sourced and environmentally friendly home building supplies from a new storefront located at 1510 Riverside Drive.
Local contractor and master plumber Tyler Smith and architect Sam Young will open Green’s on Earth Day, April 22.
“Products can be locally sourced and healthier for us and for the environment while still being affordable,” said Mr. Young, who managed a similar store in Washington, D.C. for seven years. “We have everything from zero toxicity paint to locally produced lumber, and we’re always checking our prices against big box stores. We know Chattanooga wants these products, and we can provide them all in one place.”
Green’s will help shoppers find merchandise that matches their priorities, such as products that are low toxicity, locally made, recycled, efficient and sustainable. Merchandise will include all the major items for building a single-family home and will focus on providing alternatives to materials that typically generate the most toxins, including: paint, flooring, cabinetry, countertops and tile.
“We hear a lot about homes becoming more efficient to save energy,” said Smith. “But airtight homes mean less air flow, making it increasingly important that the products we use inside the home are low-toxicity or toxicity free. As a contractor myself, I know the frustrations of trying to piece together the right products. We bring them all together in one place at Green’s.”
In addition, open workspace will be available for free to homebuilders, contractors, designers and do-it-yourself enthusiasts.
