Sgt. Sammy L. Davis
The National Medal of Honor Museum of Military History Annual Fund Raiser and Awards Banquet will be Saturday, April 25, from 6-9 p.m. at the Chattanooga Convention Center. Jed Mescon will be the master of ceremony for the event.
The speaker will be Medal of Honor recipient Sgt. Sammy L. Davis. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for actions in an area West of Cai Lay in the Republic of Vietnam on Nov. 18, 1967. His unit was Battery C, 2nd Battalion, 4th Artillery, 9th Infantry Division. He was involved in heavy action during an attack by a reinforced Viet Cong Battalion. Participants to the banquet will learn why Sgt. Davis has been called the “Real” Forrest Gump of Vietnam. Sgt. Davis is also a recipient of the Silver Star. His personal Mantra is “you don’t lose until you quit trying.”
Additional banquet festivities include a brief awards ceremony and a “silent “auction.
The National Medal of Honor Museum of Military History is a 501 c 3 nonprofit organization and is staffed by volunteers. Its primary source of income is private donations. The mission is to educate current and future generations about the sacrifices made by recipients of the Medal of Honor, the nation’s highest military decoration for valor. The museum is in Northgate Mall at 4900 Hixson Pike and is open six days a week, Tuesday-Sunday.
