World War II Veteran Had Keen Interest In Genealogy And History

Charles Frederick Oliphant, Jr., 94, died at his home on April 15, 2015. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Frederick and Jennie Hamill Oliphant, and his wife, Jayne Shutting Oliphant. 

Survivors include his brother, G. William Oliphant, his son, C. Frederick Oliphant, his daughter, Ann Oliphant Post, and four grandchildren. 

A lifelong resident of Chattanooga, he attended City High School, graduated from the University of Chattanooga with honors, served in World War II in the European Theater, where he was awarded a Purple Heart, and later worked as an executive with Scholze Tannery.  In retirement, he pursued a keen interest in genealogy and history, particularly local history. 

Visitation will be on Monday, April 20, from 10:30 a.m.-12 p.m. at Wann Funeral Home, followed by graveside services at Forest Hills Cemetery with the Reverend Robert Childers officiating. 

Memorial contributions may be made to the Chattanooga Public Library for the local history department.
