Tennessee Wesleyan College is hosting the 2015 Tennessee district 03 High School Congressional Art Competition. Sponsored by Congressman Chuck Fleischmann, the art competition features 32 entries by high school artists from around the district. The students entered their work for a chance to have their art displayed in the Congressman’s office in Washington, D.C.
“These students have submitted some very impressive works,” said Scottie Mayfield, the competition’s honorary chairman. “This is the second year of the competition in this district, and we look forward to seeing more schools participate in the future.”
The first place piece will hang in the U.S.
Capitol for one year, and the winner will receive two free roundtrip tickets to Washington, D.C., to attend a reception for the winners of each Congressional district at the Capitol. All participants in this year’s competition will receive a $3,000 scholarship from Tennessee Wesleyan College.
The public is invited to attend the closing reception and awards ceremony at 4 p.m. on Sunday on the Tennessee Wesleyan campus in the Sherman Fine Arts building. The reception will feature a gallery viewing and the district artists’ awards ceremony, where the contest winners will be announced.
