City Still Having Sewage Overflows Despite Millions Of New Spending On Projects

  • Tuesday, April 21, 2015

Lee Norris, city public works administrator, said millions of spending on water quality projects under the Consent Decree is helping on sewage overflows. However, he said some cannot be averted.

"When we have an eight-inch rain event as we did recently there will be overflows," he said.

He added, "But we are seeing improvements on the overflows as the projects are implemented."

The City Council next Tuesday is expected to approve spending $4,665,480 for the Chattanooga Creek Interceptor Rehabilitation Project.

Mr. Norris said that will focus on installing liners in older sewer pipes that are designed to keep the effluent in and to keep rainwater out.
