Prepare to be amazed as you walk into the new 72,000-square-foot Cabela’s near the Costco center in Fort Oglethorpe.  The sign says it all:  The World’s Foremost Outfitter.

The company began in a small Nebraska town, selling lures for fly fishermen.  Today, the store sells thousands of quality outdoor products from guns and knives to clothing, camping and boating gear.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony, which will include an arrow shot from a bow, will begin on Wednesday, May 13, at 9:45 a.m.

There will be a week-long celebration highlighted by special appearances, family events, giveaways and more.

As the doors open at 10 a.m. customers will be ushered into a store that feels more like a lodge, than a place to sell merchandise.

Be prepared to visit the cafe serving unique wild game dishes.  Wander through aisles full of wildlife displays, an aquarium, a waterfall, campfire setting and gun library.  Look for salespersons who know their product well, or check out the computers where different brands of merchandise can be compared.

If you bring children along for your visit, they will be entertained by interactive, educational kiosks and hand-painted murals.    Be sure to look for the vintage outdoor photos showing places in our area.

Upon opening, the store will become Cabela's third location in Georgia, joining the Augusta and Acworth locations that opened last year. It will be the company's 69th store in North America.

There will be some 200 full-time, part-time and seasonal employees hired locally.

Cabela's is open 9-9 every day except 10-7 on Sunday.

Finally, enjoy the fudge.  Nothing beats a trip to the store like a bite of chocolate to top off the trip.
